Kai ora koutou,
An important update on the proposed downgrading of our pay scale through the Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora Career Interim Framework process for Sterile Science roles. This particularly affects those on both the degree and non degree designated roles.
Over 900 NZSSA members made your voices heard. Together with the PSA we sent a strong and united message that:
• Our members have been seriously disadvantaged
• We feel let down and devalued as a profession by this ICF process.
• Sterile Science is a specialist profession that must be properly recognised and rewarded.
As a result of the pressure from NZSSA, PSA, and our members:
• Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora has paused the reconsideration/appeal process
• PSA will continue to engage with Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora on this issue on behalf of members.
This outcome has been achieved because:
• NZSSA has been actively advocating for our profession
• Members stood together and spoke up
• PSA challenged the proposal through the correct processes
We are not finished. NZSSA will continue to push for:
• Fair and appropriate pay.
• Recognition of our specialist skills and responsibilities.
• A secure, respected career pathway for all Sterile Science professionals.
Thank you to every Sterile Sciences technician who has supported this effort. We will keep you updated as discussions between the PSA and HNZ/Te Whatu Ora progress.
